Reading Steps uses a colorful level system to track student progress and motivate continued reading.
Level progression
Students progress through 11 levels:

How to level up
Students earn points through:
Reading logs
- Logging daily reading sessions
- Consistent reading streaks
- Reading longer sessions
Book reviews
- Writing thoughtful reviews
- Higher quality reviews earn more points
- Reviews must be approved to count
Quizzes
- Completing book quizzes
- Higher scores earn more points
- Taking quizzes for challenging books
Assessments
- Completing reading assessments
- Showing improvement over time
Visual indicators
Student levels are displayed:
- Profile avatar border - Colored ring around their picture
- Dashboard - Current level prominently shown
- Leaderboards - Level badges next to names
