Connect Reading Steps with external services to streamline data management and automate workflows.

Accessing integrations

  1. Log in to the admin panel
  2. Go to Integrations in the sidebar
The Link Token is used to authenticate external services with your Reading Steps account.

Viewing your token

  1. Go to Integrations
  2. Find the Link Token card
  3. Click the eye icon
  4. Enter your password to confirm your identity
  5. Your token will be displayed in the format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

Regenerating your token

If your token is compromised or you need a new one:
  1. Reveal your current token (see above)
  2. Click the refresh icon
  3. Confirm the regeneration
  4. Your new token will be applied to all your organizations
Regenerating your token will invalidate the old one immediately. Update all external services that use the token.

Google Sheets integration

Import student and class data directly from Google Sheets.

Connecting your Google account

  1. Go to Integrations
  2. Find the Google Sheets Integration card
  3. Toggle the switch to expand the section
  4. Click Connect Google Account
  5. Sign in with your Google account
  6. Grant Reading Steps permission to view your spreadsheets

Importing from a spreadsheet

  1. After connecting, click Fetch Google Sheets
  2. Select a spreadsheet from the list
  3. Click Import next to the sheet you want to use
  4. Map the columns to Reading Steps fields
  5. Review and confirm the import

Your spreadsheet should include columns for:

ESS SIMS integration

The ESS SIMS integration is coming soon. This will allow direct synchronization with your school’s SIMS system.

Troubleshooting

Google Sheets connection failed

  • Ensure you’re signed into the correct Google account
  • Check that you granted all requested permissions
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting your account

Import errors

  • Verify your spreadsheet format matches the expected columns
  • Check that class names in the spreadsheet match existing classes
  • Ensure there are no duplicate usernames

Token not working

  • Verify you’re using the complete token including dashes
  • Check that the token hasn’t been regenerated
  • Ensure the external service is using the correct API endpoint
